St Stithians cruise to Schools T20 championship

St Stithians College were crowned the undisputed champions of the 2013/2014 Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge, when they beat Hoërskool Waterkloof by nine wickets in the final held at Tuks Oval in Pretoria on Sunday. The bizhub Highveld Lions representatives, who are unbeaten in the tournament, collected R110 000 in prize money, while The Unlimited Titans reps finished as tournament runners up for the second, consecutive year.A batting collapse by Waterkloof saw them bundled out for 75 runs in 18 overs, a much weaker performance following their comprehensive 127-run defeat over Wynberg Boys’ High (Nashua Cape Cobras) in their final group match earlier in the day. No one scored more than Henco Vorstman’s 27 off 34, with “extras” rounding up the second highest score of 16 runs, after Waterkloof won the toss and opted to bat first. St Stithians’ Connor Beauchamp took 3/12, while Nicholas Scholtz and Brandon Glover took two wickets each.
