There were wins for the bizhub Highveld Lions, The Unlimited Titans and the Chevrolet Knights representatives on the morning of the first day of the Coca-Cola T20 Schools Challenge national finals at the University of Pretoria’s LC De Villiers complex on Friday.
St Stithians, the Highveld Lions champions, beat the Dolphins’ Westville Boys High by eight wickets, with SA u-19 batsman Ryan Rickleton knocking an unbeaten 50. Titans representatives, Hoërskool Waterkloof, beat the Warriors’ Kingswood College by five wickets, while Grey College, playing in the colours of the Knights, got the winning runs off the second last ball of the game to beat the Nashua Cape Cobras reps, Wynberg Boys’ High School, by six wickets. The six schools competing all won their own franchise T20 titles, qualifying for the national finals. They will play two games a day on Friday and Saturday and one on Sunday, with the top two teams meeting in the final on Sunday afternoon. This afternoon saw both St Stithians and Grey College win their games to emerge unbeaten after Day 1 of the national finals. The match of the day was played in the afternoon, seeing the Highveld Lions beat the Titans by 49 runs.
