AN unbeaten century from Colin Ackermann capped a powerful batting display from the Warriors as they outplayed the BuildNat Cape Cobras on the opening day of their Sunfoil Series clash at PPC Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday. Michael Price was out one short of a century after making 99 (162 balls, 16 fours, 1 six), while Eddie Moore hit 50 (75 balls, 8 fours) and Yaseen Vallie made 61 (109 balls, 6 fours) to give the visitors a commanding 342/4 at stumps. The Warriors, who came into the game with their tails up after beating the champion Multiply Titans in their previous game, had won the toss and batted first against a home team that has lost both games so far this season. And they dominated from the outset with Price and Moore putting on 113 for the first wicket, before the latter fell to Dane Piedt (1/101). Price looked a shoe-in for his century after dominating the bowling, but was bogged down in the 90s and was eventually bowled by Stiaan van Zyl, who was surprisingly the pick of the bowlers with 2/33. The Warriors opener was one of two wickets to fall in quick succession, the other being Lesiba Ngoepe for a duck, but Ackermann and Vallie combined for a 117-run fourth-wicket stand, which was ended by Tshepo Moreki (1/65). But Ackermann was still there on 116 at the close, his eighth career century amassed off 219 balls, including 14 fours and 4 sixes.
